How to Judge a Blender Beyond Wattage

Why the biggest wattage number can mislead
Wattage describes electrical power under defined conditions; it does not tell you how efficiently a blender moves food through its blades. Two machines with similar published power can behave differently because of gearing, control software, blade shape, jar geometry and cooling.
A high number also does not guarantee durability. A motor can be powerful while the drive coupling, lid, bearing or control panel becomes the limiting part. Evaluate the whole machine around the job you expect it to repeat.

Variable speed gives direct control over texture and can help start heavy mixtures gradually. Presets are useful when they reliably match your recipes, but they do not replace observation. A pulse control should respond immediately and be easy to use without moving the base.
Look for labels that remain readable and controls that can be wiped clean. Touch panels appear simple until wet fingers, glare or residue make them irritating. Physical controls can also fail, so judge execution rather than choosing a control type by appearance.
The cleanup test
Inspect the underside of the lid, removable cap, gasket areas and the transition around the blade assembly. A self-cleaning cycle can loosen residue but does not eliminate inspection, rinsing and safe handling around blades.
